Underage drinking is a reality that school counselors encounter frequently. It is important for school counselors to understand the facts about underage drinking, including why kids drink, short- and long-term consequences of drinking and the role parents and schools play in helping to prevent alcohol use and alcohol-related problems. Schools in particular can provide students with the knowledge, skills, motivation and opportunities to remain safe and resist the temptations to drink.
